Sooo… 5am became my new favorite part of the day.

A few weeks ago, I was surviving on 3–4 hours of broken sleep.

There was a short stretch where my wife was hospitalized due to preeclampsia, and my only option was to hold the fort down.

Adrenaline running. Coffee maker working overtime. Anxiety through the roof.

But I made it.

Now our little guy is sleeping longer stretches, and that extra 60 minutes a night makes me feel like Superman again.

I’m gradually getting my energy back. I even got in 2 workouts this week.

Short. At home. Nothing fancy. Just two kettlebells and some bands.

Most mornings, he wakes up around the same time I do. We get some father-son time while I get the house in order.

Then my wife wakes up shortly after and we’re out the door for a morning walk.

Sweater weather is here.

Our mornings have quickly gone from sunrise at 6:30–7am to walking in the dark.

But we still do it.

Coffee for me. Tea for her. Baby bundled up and loving every minute of it.

Nothing fancy. Just a routine we aim to be consistent with.

And now, these quiet mornings have become some of my favourite moments.

Maybe fatherhood isn’t about getting our old life back.

Maybe it’s realizing how good the new one can be and all the wonderful changes that come with it.

Until the next one dads,
John Guevara
